Originally from Three Islands, (L’Ardoise), Cape Breton Island, Hank Middleton is a retired teacher and principal who lives in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.

While teaching History in the town of Lunenburg, Hank produced a book of educational material for local students entitled, “Lunenburg: History and Heritage”. Hank combined his passions for music and history by writing all original music for the Lunenburg Dinner Theatre Company in the early 90s. He also wrote the music and the script for the Centre School production, “A Quirky Look at Lunenburg County” which was performed by students of the school. He has written and arranged music for a number of theatrical productions by the South Shore Players and is one of the principal script and songwriters for the summer production, “Glimpses” which runs each summer in the theatre at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic in Lunenburg. He also arranges and provides the music for that show.

Hank currently plays lead guitar with the Cattail Ridge Band and guitar and bass with the bilingual group, Collage, for which he is also the principal songwriter. As wel, he plays and jams with a number of individuals from the South Shore, many who appear on his recent CD. Because of his Acadian heritage, Hank also writes in French and was the subject of an ARTV (Québec) documentary as a Maritime “acadien” with a passion for music.

Hank has arranged the music and played guitars and bass on Yves Rossignol’s CD, “De la Nouvelle Ecosse à la Louisiane” and arranged and wrote much of the material for Collage’s CD, “Scenes of Home”. He completed his own CD in April of 2010, entitled “Middletunes” which features Hank and over 20 “family and friends” on 17 songs and 2 instrumentals. All proceeds from “Middletunes” will go to support Habitat for Humanity, South Shore.

In addition to music, Hank is involved in his community as a board member for the Lunenburg County Historical Society and Habitat for Humanity South Shore. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society. L’Association du centre culturel de la Rive Sud, le Festival Acadien-Mi’kmaq and the LaHave Folk Festival He is also a school board member with le Conseil scolaire acadien provincial.
